Before you start reading this post, you need to understand that this blog post is for all those who believe that “choosing the mascot that would win in a fight” is a good method of picking your bracket. Well The Bracket Wizard’s thought on that: "You are living in a fantasy world where sports mascots have taken over and earth is ruled under their dominion." The fact of the matter is that there really isn’t a guaranteed method for winning your bracket, so if that is what you want to pick the coolest, cutest, or meanest mascot to win your bracket go for it! For those living in this fantasy world, The Bracket Wizard has come up with a similar type of logic-based method of picking your bracket: Color. More specifically, the color blue.
Below are the Final Four teams since 2010:
2021: Baylor, Gonzaga, UCLA, Houston
2020: No Tournament
2019: Virginia, Texas Tech, Auburn, Michigan State
2018: Villanova, Michigan, Kansas, Loyola Chicago
2017: North Carolina, Gonzaga, Oregon, South Carolina
2016: Villanova, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Syracuse
2015: Duke, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Kentucky
2014: UConn, Kentucky, Florida, Wisconsin
2013: Louisville, Michigan, Syracuse, Wichita State
2012: Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio State, Louisville
2011: Uconn, Butler, Kentucky, VCU
2010: Duke, Butler, Michigan State, West Virginia
** Bolded teams have blue as primary or secondary color. Each team is in the blue color of their uniform.
Since 2010, there have been 44 teams in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Of these 44 teams, 25 teams have blue in their uniform or are school. That is 57%! Now blue and all the variants of blue represents a popular color choice in sports, but there are A LOT of colors to choose from when choosing school colors. The fact that 57% of teams in the Final Four have blue as school colors is interesting, but likely doesn’t mean anything significant. In any case, if you are going to choose a team based on color, go blue. For all those mascot choosing, color choosing, risk-taking and crazies out there, this is your chance to provide some substance to your argument for picking the bracket the way you do!
